Examples from recent usability studies

No two projects are priced the same: cost depends on the number of participants, the method and how many countries you test in. Here are a few recent examples — anonymised — to show what a study can look like and what it tends to cost.

Frequently asked questions

A usability study can be run on almost any digital product where people complete tasks: websites and webshops, web applications and SaaS software, mobile apps (iOS and Android), and interactive prototypes (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch). We also test self-service portals, checkout and onboarding flows, and physical-digital touchpoints like self-checkout kiosks or in-store screens. Whether it's already live or still a clickable prototype, if users interact with it, it can be tested.

Most usability studies take about 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff to report, depending on the setup you choose. That covers designing the study and recruiting participants, running the sessions, and analysis and reporting afterwards. Unmoderated studies are generally faster, since participants complete the tasks in their own time rather than in scheduled sessions. You'll get a clear timeline together with your quote.

Yes. We recruit participants from our own panel of 100,000+ people across Europe, screened to match your target audience. Every participant is manually checked against your criteria before they're approved, so you only meet people who fit. In most countries the sign-up process is localised, so participants take part in their own language. Recruitment, scheduling and incentives are all handled for you.

The cost of a usability study depends on the method, session length, number of participants and which services you need. In general, a study falls between €2,500 and €7,500. Unmoderated studies tend to be more affordable than moderated ones, since no live facilitator is involved. You'll always receive a fixed quote up front — including participant recruitment and incentives if needed — so there are no surprises. Tell us your goal and audience and you'll have a price indication within one business day.

As a rule of thumb, 5 to 8 participants per user group or device type is enough to uncover the majority of usability issues. In practice, moderated studies are usually run with 12 participants (6 mobile, 6 desktop) and unmoderated studies with 20 (10 mobile, 10 desktop). If you have several distinct user groups, you'll want that number per group. We'll recommend a sample size based on your goals and audience. Learn more about sample size in this article.

Yes. Alongside participants from our panel, you can invite people you've sourced yourself — your own customers, users or contacts — for moderated or unmoderated sessions. They go through the same scheduling, reminders and recording flow through our platform, so everything stays in one place. This is a good fit when you specifically want feedback from existing users, and it lowers the cost since no recruitment is needed.
